Jonathan Joins Woking Litter Warriors Lauren and David

Woking’s Member of Parliament, Jonathan Lord, celebrated the Woking Litter Warriors’ work and success by inviting Woking Litter Warriors’, Lauren Horncastle and David Horncastle to attend a reception at 10 Downing Street on 24th April for local “Charity Champions”.

After entering the famous black door and having a look around No.10 Downing Street, the representatives of community organisations from all over the UK had the opportunity to meet Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Stuart Andrew, and the Chairman of the Charity Commission, Orlando Fraser.

The Minister for Charities, Stuart Andrew welcomed the “Champions” and their local MPs and thanked all present for their charitable endeavours within their respective areas, highlighting the value of those efforts in supporting and binding communities together. After the reception Jonathan Lord MP showed Lauren and David around the Palace of Westminster, including the Chambers of both the House of Lord and the House of Commons, whilst members were debating.

Jonathan Lord MP said, “It was a great pleasure to welcome Lauren and David to Westminster and celebrate the fantastic work of the Woking Litter Warriors at this special reception for community champions. The fantastic efforts of Woking Litter Warriors to protect our environment by getting rid of litter is something that is hugely appreciated by local residents and almost certainly by our local wildlife too!”

Lauren said “It was lovely to visit Parliament. A great day was had by both, and we especially enjoyed the anecdotes told by Mr Lord about the Central Lobby and the rich history of the Palace. We even almost bumped into PM Rishi Sunak in a corridor!”

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Sport, Gambling and Civil Society, Stuart Andrew said: “As Minister for Civil Society, I see the best that this country has to offer, and the selflessness and hard work of charity champions is something we can all be proud of. Across the country, the support, kindness, and effort of charity champions cannot be underestimated.

“During difficult times, local charities have been a lifeline for many across the country. Sacrificing their time and energy for the greater good, often without recognition, charity champions are the beating hearts of our communities. Their tireless work should not go unnoticed.”
