March 2020
Dear Constituent,
Many thanks for contacting me about the emergency legislation relating to the Government's response to coronavirus. I read your email carefully and have noted they key points that you raise.
I am pleased to be able to inform you that I added my name to the amendment that was tabled by Naz Shah MP.
As soon as this matter was brought to my attention at the end of last week, I also talked with Government Ministers, (including over the weekend), to try to make sure that this Bill meets the expectations of the Muslim community in all its aspects. I am delighted to report that the Government then tabled its own important changes to the legislation to ensure that the Bill is fit for purpose. Naz Shah MP and I are happy with the revised Bill and it passed the Commons last night (Monday 23rd March) without the need for a vote of all MPs.
I hope you find this information useful and I am pleased that we secured a very satisfactory outcome.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
With best wishes.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Lord
Member of Parliament for Woking
