March 2020
Dear Constituent,
Thank you for contacting me about future trade agreements. I have read your concerns and noted them accordingly.
I understand your concerns regarding standards in future trade agreements and the scrutiny of such agreements. However, I would like to assure you that such concerns are unfounded.
On the specific issue of public healthcare, I know the Government is committed to protecting the NHS. The NHS is safeguarded by specific exemptions in all EU trade agreements and, as our country leaves the EU, the UK will continue to ensure that rigorous protections for the NHS are included in all trade agreements it is party to.
Ministers are also committed to transparency and scrutiny of trade agreements, including by Parliament.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me regarding this important issue.
With best wishes.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Lord MP
Member of Parliament for Woking
