April 2020
Dear Constituent,
Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about 5G. The have been carefully read and noted by me.
I believe it is vital that the UK has the digital infrastructure it needs to compete and grow in the modern economy. The Government is committed to making the UK a world leader in 5G. 5G is still in its development stages and is likely to be rolled out as part of a patchwork of technologies, including those already in use, such as 4G, Wi-Fi, as well as 5G new radio.
Considerable research has been carried out on radio waves and the Government does not anticipate any negative effects on public health. I understand that existing technical standards, which consider international guidelines and research on non-ionizing radiation, are expected to be followed throughout the development of 5G products and networks. I am assured that as 5G continues to develop, the Government will work with Public Health England to monitor available evidence and take any necessary action.
It is also scientifically impossible for there to be any links whatsoever between 5G and the spread or virulence of Coronavirus, or, indeed, any links of any kind between the two, and anyone positing or spreading such baseless and ridiculous rumours should desist immediately.
Thank you again for taking the time to write to me. I am, however, currently dealing with literally hundreds of emails a day and unprecedented amounts of constituent casework, so I would be grateful if you did not write to me again about this matter in near future, as I have shared my full views in my considered response to you.
With best wishes.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Lord
Member of Parliament for Woking
