January 2021
Dear Constituent,
Thank you for contacting me about the Government’s stance on quarantining/testing of arrivals at British airports and ports.
I am very sympathetic to the thrust of what you say and can assure you that my ministerial colleagues are also very aware of these issues. Just today the Government announced tougher mandatory measures at the border, meaning that people will need to provide a negative coronavirus test before entry into the UK which will help us to control the virus as we roll out the vaccine over the coming weeks.
From next week, people entering England from abroad will be required to present a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to departure. People will also still be required to self-isolate for ten days regardless of their test result, if they are arriving from countries not on the travel corridor list.
For more information on these changes please see: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mandatory-covid-19-testing-introduced-to-bolster-border-measures.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me about this important issue.
With best wishes.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Lord MP
Member of Parliament for Woking
