April 2021
Dear Constituent,
Thank you for contacting me about international travel and for sharing your thoughts and views.
It is my understanding that while the Government is hopeful that people will be able to travel abroad this summer, the resumption of international travel is subject to review, with more information due in the coming weeks. The Global Travel Taskforce will report on 5th April with recommendations aimed at facilitating a return to international travel as soon as possible, while still managing the risk from imported cases and variants of concern.
You may find of interest the Government’s full guidance for British people travelling abroad during the pandemic which is available at the following link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus.
You will be pleased to know I recently signed an MP letter to the Prime Minister urging him to introduce a risk-based approach to international travel that will allow for its safe resumption, whilst also providing scope for public health protections when required. I firmly believe that a risk-based framework can ensure that the right balance is struck between reopening travel with minimal restrictions and making sure this can be done safely. It would also take into account the significant and welcome progress made in our vaccination programme.
Please be assured that I will continue to monitor the situation carefully and will raise your specific concerns with my ministerial colleagues whenever appropriate.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
With best wishes.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Lord MP
Member of Parliament for Woking
